The CHDB

Putting Current, Local Data to Use:

 

The major goal of the CHDB is to improve the health and wellbeing of the community by assuring that policies and programs address community needs. An example of how CHDB data are used to meet this goal, CHDB staff recently completed community health needs assessments (CHNA) for 28 non-profit hospitals in the Southeastern Pennsylvania region that will benefit community residents and satisfy requirements of the Affordable Care Act. During the course of this process, which was awarded to PHMC by the Delaware Valley Healthcare Council, CHDB staff worked closely with hospital representatives to identify their service areas and special populations. Using data from the 2012 Household Health Survey, as well as other data sources such as the U.S. Census and vital statistics, CHDB staff identified and prioritized unmet needs in each of the hospitalsí service areas. The CHNA reports will be posted on each of the respective hospitalís web site. The next step in this process is for hospital representatives to develop strategies and implementation plans that will address the unmet needs identified by CHDB staff in the CHNA reports.
